Nirvana

 

Nirvana fue un grupo estadounidense de grunge, procedente de aberdeen, Washington. Con el éxito del sencillo smell like teen spirit, del álbum Nevermind, Nirvana escaló las listas musicales en todo el mundo e inició la explosión de lo que hasta ese momento era punk underground y rock alternativo en la escena musical mundial, en un movimiento al que los medios de la época se referirían como "grunge". Otras bandas de la escena musical de Seattle como Alice in chains, Pearl j y Soundgarden también obtuvieron popularidad y, como resultado, el rock alternativo se convirtió en un genero dominante en la radio y la televisión musical durante la primera mitad de la decada de 1990

System of a Down (también conocida como System o más frecuentemente por su acrónimo, SOAD es una banda de metal alternativo de ascendencia armenia formada en Glendale, California, en el año 1995. En un comienzo se llamaron Soil, pero luego adoptaron el nombre System of a down inspirados por el poema Victims of a Down, escrito por el guitarrista Daron Malakian Son famosos por realizar canciones en cuyas letras se manifiestan en contra del maltrato infantil, la violencia, la guerra, los genocidios, la pornografía violenta y el machismo, el predominio de los intereses materialistas en la sociedad, las desigualdades sociales, físicas e ideológicas, la intolerancia o la discriminación, entre otros. Está compuesta por Serj Takian (composición, voz, teclado y ocasionalmente guitarra), Daron Malakian(composición, guitarra y voz), Shavo Odadjian (bajo) y John Dolmayan (batería).
